What we check
Can they get in?
We read your robots.txt the way a crawler does, then ask your server directly — once per crawler, with that crawler’s user-agent. robots.txt states policy; only a real request shows what your CDN does with it.
Can they read it?
We analyse the HTML your server sends, with no JavaScript executed — which is what nearly every AI crawler sees. If your content only appears after hydration, they get a blank page.
Can they cite you?
Structured data, a canonical URL, dates, an author, a sitemap. This is how an assistant knows who you are and decides to attribute an answer to you rather than to a competitor.
How we avoid crying wolf
Sending a crawler’s user-agent from our own IP is not proof of anything: plenty of CDNs verify bots by IP and refuse impostors. So every scan also sends a plain browser request and an honest, unnamed bot request from the same address. We only call it a targeted block when both of those get through and the named crawler does not. Anything else is reported as what it is.
